Colnago Bikes

Colnago was founded by Ernesto Colnago in 1954 near Milano in Cambiago, Italy. Instead of following his family's farming business Ernesto Colnago chose to work in the cycle trade, taking up road racing before eventually being employed as a mechanic for the Molteni team of Belgian legend Eddy Merckx.
In 1960, Colnago saw fame as Luigi Arienti rode to a gold medal at the Rome Olympics on a Colnago bicycle.
Colnago produced the super-light steel frame used by Eddy Merckx in 1972, to break the world one hour record.
Colnago produced the steel (Columbus tubed) frame used in 1982, by Saronni to win the world professional road race championship.
During the mid 1980s, the company introduced the "Precisa" brand bicycle fork. It was the first front fork with straight blades.
Colnago has always produced high-end steel bikes, and has branched out into other materials, working with Ferrari to develop new carbon fiber technology, and occasionally introducing titanium and aluminum frames. Its flagship frames, such as the C-40 and the C-50 – respectively named for Colnago's 40th and 50th years in bike building are carbon fiber frames.

Colnago’s new top-of-the-range, custom-made 100% carbon-fibre racing machine, the C59 Italia, was four years in development. Designed, built and painted in Italy and with a frame weighing about one kilo, the C59 Italia features a classic Master-shaped internally ribbed top tube and down tube to maximise stiffness, which is further increased by square chainstays and seatstays.

Developed with input from cyclo-cross world champion Sven Nys, the Cross Prestige is the ultimate carbon-fibre cross frame for the rough and tumble of winter racing. An alfa carbon monocoque front triangle makes it tough, while lugged seatstays and chainstays maximise tyre and mud clearance, which has been further improved by a redesign of the bridge between the seatstays

Colnago’s carbon-fibre Rock mountain bicycle has been setting pace on the 2010 World Cup scene. The star of the Colnago Arreghini team is Italian champion Eva Lechner, who is pressing for overall victory in the World Cup on Colnago’s best-ever composite cross-country racing frame. The beta carbon front triangle is moulded in one piece for lightness, strength and stiffness. The use of advanced composites keeps the Rock’s weight down and ensures it can deal with the frequent high-impact hits guaranteed in off-road racing.

Used with impressive results by five Colnago professional teams, the Flight guarantees pure speed. Designed entirely in Italy using advanced computational fluid dynamics techniques and tested in the Milan Politecnico university wind tunnel to refine the overall aerodynamic performance without sacrificing its efficiency as a bicycle. The flight can be set up with a forward triathlon position or a more traditional road position.

Winner of a design award by iconic style magazine Wallpaper* and described by Ernesto Colnago as “almost too beautiful for a city bicycle”, the Super is, as he says, “the ultimate city bicycle”. Available in head-turning black livery, the Super sets the standard for simple urban bicycles by combining Colnago craftsmanship with street style. The classic lugged steel frame harks back to Colnago’s artisan heritage, while chrome plating highlights the handlebar stem and the head of the straight-bladed fork. Its performance on the road lives up to its spectacular looks and its sure handling and zippy acceleration deals with everything a city’s streets can throw at it. Its flip-flop hub offers the choice between fixed-gear speed or freewheel cruising.

Colnago, arguably the most desired brand on the planet, has been producing race winning frames for the best cyclists in the world for over 50 years. Although looked at as being a traditional bike builder, they were one of the first to incorporate carbon fiber into their designs.
